The Heart
By Niha Hasan
Isn’t it easier to say, “My tooth is aching” than “My heart is aching?” If someone hits me on the head and I react, my reaction would be fair to them. They will never ask “what’s bothering you.” But if someone hits me in the heart and I react, my reaction would make no sense to them. They act like nothing happened by asking “what’s bothering you.”
Why do people not understand that the heart is not just a shape, not just a fist-sized organ that pumps blood throughout the body? The heart can ache like our injured body parts. When it aches, it feels like dying.
The heartache is a very powerful emotion. It fails to notify our mind. The mind is also a very powerful organ. When the mind and the heartache both combine, it can certainly produce a mental and physical reaction.
The point is, that if we can make simple things complicated, we also can trap a normal person in a cycle of mental illness which can surely turn into physical illness.
