Poem: Scaffolding by Leena Elgabri

"Watching from behind has me reeling..."

Scaffolding

By: Leena Elgabri

Meeting you here wasn't supposed to happen,

Becoming attached was a mistake.

Following you around while I still hid,

Away from everything at stake.

Watching from behind has me reeling,

Wishing and hoping that keeping you here,

Staying in line and keeping silent,

Won't bring you to your demise because of something I am seeking.

Sometimes, you shine so brightly, I have to look away.

Your light is blinding, it keeps me at bay,

But a little part of me still hopes you will say,

Please don't go, please do stay.

Leaving you now has me tumbling,

I didn't realize the scaffolding would end up collapsing,

But know the next time we reunite that I will have courage and a head-start,

With this new feeling lodged deep inside my heart.
